On Nov. 8, the Varsity Football team faced off against De La Salle and lost 35-21, ending the season and the playoff run for South. Despite the loss, special teams player Throop Linnell ’27 said that the team kept going even through pressure from the stands and some tough moments during the game.
“We kept the overall spirit,” Linnell said.. “You can see we were the ones who scored the last touchdown. We just kept rolling, even though they were rolling a little bit faster. We stuck with them and we never gave up.”
Cheerleader Mia Fillmore ’25 said that the game was a rollercoaster of emotions.
“One minute we had the ball and then the next there was an interception,” Fillmore said. “It was such an eventful game with good plays from both teams.”
Captain and middle linebacker Lex Willson ’25 said the team had a lot of heart throughout the season, but especially during their last game. The game had a lot of ups and downs for the crowd and players.
“When they missed that field goal it was definitely big,” Willson said. “Then we scored first which was also huge and electric. They were just a good team and kept going.”
Linnell, while being excited that he was pulled up from JV for the game and being a special teams starter, realizes the emotions coming from everyone, but especially the seniors on such an eventful night.
“You can see that the ones who were the saddest out there were the seniors,” Linnell said. “I’m sure every single senior will be thinking about high school football and all the teammates that they had for a long time to come.”
