The South football team is gearing up for the High School Division II playoffs, and possibly claiming their first-ever State Championship after a fantastic 9-0 start in the regular season. Under the leadership of head coach Chad Hepner, the team has had its first undefeated season since before the 21st century.
“We are ready for whatever challenge faces us,” Daniel Linnell ’27 said. “They beat us last year in the playoffs, and I know they won’t do it again.”
Even with the great start going into the postseason, the team has its toughest challenge yet going up against a hot Roseville team that South had previously beaten in the regular season. It will be their toughest challenge yet, and the team has been preparing a lot for the game.
“We try to pretend it’s a normal game during preparation, but we all know deep down that this game means more than just a regular old game,“ Linnell said. “I can’t wait, and my teammates can’t either, we are so pumped up.”
The entire school is cheering on the Blue Devils during their historic run, and the whole community encourages them as well. With this motivation, the team is excited and prepared for whatever comes their way.
“It’s great to have the whole town behind us,” Ben Showalter ’26 said. “The road ahead to the state championship starts this weekend.”
