In the month of October, colleges in Michigan are removing application fees to make the application process easier for students. South Counselor Jennifer Vick believes that Colleges want students to get a head start on the application process.
“November is the deadline for early applications for most colleges,” Vick said. “Some kids are slow to get started on the college application process because it can be overwhelming.”
Vick said that one way students may be slow to start applying is because of the expense of college applications.
“Applying for colleges can really add up,” Vick said. “On top of other fees, applying to a singular college can be up to 50 dollars, it can really add up once you apply to more than one college.”
During the month of October, students are incentivized to apply early because some colleges’ application fees are waived.
“Applying this month really encourages students to get the ball rolling,” Vick said. “Who knows, maybe a student will end up going to a college they have never considered before.”
