Caroline Bryan ’28 feels this exact way. She said that being the youngest sibling in her family, she has watched it all before, but it’s different this time when she’s actually participating.
“I’m excited for everything because I have two older siblings that have been going through this for multiple years,” Bryan said. “They always seemed to have had lots of fun and I’m just excited to experience my first high school dance and homecoming game and spend time with people.”
Though the entire spirit week can seem exciting, it sometimes can be described as overwhelming and chaotic. Christian Azoury ’28 said that it can feel like a culture shock the first time you witness South during homecoming week.
“Don’t get me wrong, it is a ton of fun,” Azoury said. “It is just a lot that nobody knew entirely how it would play out. It’s our first time doing this and yeah you can tell we’re the freshmen, but everyone seems to be having a great time.”
While the nerves and anticipation may build up for some, for others it is just a time to have fun and just experience all there is to experience. Delaney DeMarco ’28 says that the most important piece of spirit week is being prideful in who South is as a school and who each grade is as a class.
“I really love all the energy we, as the freshman class, had towards South spirit,” DeMarco said. “I loved running through the halls and the fact that everyone really showed up, not just for ourselves, but for each other.”
