The fundraiser was held on South’s stadium track, beginning with the 10k, and 5k at 9:00am and 9:05am, followed by the two mile walk at 9:10am. A large number of participants partaking in these events were South students that participate in fall or winter sports. These sports included field hockey, volleyball, swim, cross country, and hockey. Captain of the field hockey team, Helena Moore ’25, sees Run the Pointes as an important way to create revenue for the sport as it is their only fundraiser throughout the season.
“I think it is really important to find ways to support my team and the sport itself,” Moore said, “Run the Pointes is a great opportunity to raise that money for the team.”
Not only do these athletes attend Run the Pointes to fundraise money but also because the sports see it as a fun tradition they want to continue to uphold says volleyball captain, Olivia Mcmillin ’25.
“We always sign up for the two mile walk which I enjoy,” Mcmillin says, “but also afterwards we have a fun tradition of going to Eastside Bagel as a team and getting breakfast, and it’s a great way to bond.”
Volleyball is not the only sport that has traditions, however, Moore says the field hockey team also has some things they do to make the run more fun.
“Normally we like to wear pajamas or onesies to the run,” Moore said, “and sometimes we even bring things like scooters, bikes, or roller blades.”
Even without the traditions, Run the Pointes is a great way to give back to South athletics, and also have the opportunity to run around the community.
“I love going to Run the Pointes,” Mcmillin said, “I feel so accomplished after, especially knowing I’m not only running but raising money.”
