Charli XCX’s new album, “brat and it’s completely different but also still brat,” is a remix based on her original album released called “brat.” The album includes all of the same tracks from before but with multiple new features from different artists. The artists include Ariana Grande, The 1975 & Jon Hopkins, Troye Sivan, Addison Rae, Lorde, Bon Iver, Billie Eilish and many more.
One of the most anticipated songs that I enjoyed on the album from before and on the remix is “Sympathy is a Knife.” This now features Ariana Grande.
Grande sings on the track, “It’s a knife when you know they’re counting on your mistakes / It’s a knife when you’re so pretty, they think you must be fake / It’s a knife when they dissect your body on the front page.”
These lyrics call out the rumors of her receiving plastic surgery in the past, and feeling like she is constantly under a microscope when it comes to the media. The lyricism and overall beautiful voice of Grande adds to the song is why this is one of the best remixes on the album in my opinion. Based on this song, Ariana is calling out those who relentlessly judge her for the way her body looks. As a society, it’s not no one’s place to tell someone how they should look. Instead, embrace your inner self for what you truly are, just like Grande is.
Another remix that was equally as good was “365” featuring Shygirl. Although only being two minutes long, this remix of the song is even better than the original. The beat builds up and is a great example of what upbeat club music should sound like. The original song of “365” was still upbeat and faster beat wise, but in the remix it picks up and goes significantly more upbeat. It incorporates Shygirl’s style of making music as well as adding more to Charli’s.
Finally, another one of her most anticipated songs was her feature of Billie Eilish, “Guess.” Because Eilish rarely does features in the more recent years, her added part to the song just made it ten times better. There was also a music video released that completely matched Billie’s vibe, as well as Charli XCX’s. In “Guess” we get a peek at a much more amusing source of hidden tension between best friends, and the overall flow of the song is what makes people so into the song.
