After three continuous years on their Music of the Spheres world tour, Coldplay recorded their tenth studio album, “Moon Music”. Following the release of their album, “Music of the Spheres”, the band spent the next three years touring the globe, as well as taking time to produce “Moon Music”.
The album itself intends to be listened to all the way through, as it contains many interludes and pieces of poetry that introduce the next track. In length, the entire album is 43 minutes and 57 seconds long and attempts to write something heartwarming and beautiful for nearly the entire time. The record often relates to the album cover like a scene in real life. I found it easy to find myself laying on the grass watching the moon in it’s beauty and taking in the peace.
The main focus of the record was about finding peace and love through the world in difficult times. The first track of the album, “MOON MUSiC” introduces the topic, writing, “Maybe I’m just crazy, I should just be a brick in the wall. Sit and watch the TV, blame everyone else for it all.”
The topic becomes more apparent in one of their singles for the record, “We Pray”, which takes the perspective of those in need and in suffering hoping for salvation. The song also featured several artists from the countries of Nigeria, and Palestine who are currently facing hardship.
From my personal experience with the record, I loved the simplicity some of the songs on this record had. Throughout 2024, the charts have been dominated by songs with heavy sound effects, and it felt refreshing to listen to the lead singer, Chris Martin, just play the piano.
The most impactful part of this album had to be it’s length. With only ten tracks, and four of them being interludes, the individual songs meant so much more. Compared to an album of 31 songs, you listen to each part with more gratitude and intent, while also causing the artist to be very intentional with every song to include.
Moon Music set out to feel like a landscape piece of art, and I believe that it accomplished that goal. Coldplay created many moments of beauty through simplicity, while also being an influential part of the world by giving musicians a voice through their platform. The record relived these beautiful moments of life, in the end it’s just love that moves the world forward.
