From the Emails I Can’t Send Tour to the Short n’ Sweet Tour, Sabrina Carpenter has grown immensely in the past few years. On Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024, Carpenter came to Little Caesars Arena for her third stop on the brand new, Short n’ Sweet Tour. With a crowd full of cheering fans, she performed a variety of songs from two of her most popular albums, “emails i can’t send” and “Short n’ Sweet”.
To open her concert, Carpenter began with Taste, the first track on the “Short n’ Sweet” album. With an array of lights and a stadium filled with screaming fans, Carpenter introduced herself to the audience and welcomed them to the tour. She later transitioned into other songs off of her brand new album, mixing in a couple from “emails i can’t send”.
Carpenter set up her concert as if it were an old fashioned television show. The concert was split up into three separate parts: The Short n’ Sweet Show, Sabrina After Dark, and Don’t Touch That Dial! In between each part, she would air fake infomercials, playing more and more into that nostalgic feeling. As if it were truly a television show, she even had a comedic narrator to guide concert goers through the set. It felt as if I were watching a show from the 90’s.
Compared to Carpenters last time in Detroit, her audience has tripled in size. On May 6, 2023, Carpenter came to the Detroit Masonic Temple as one of her final stops on her Emails I Can’t Send Tour. The size of the Masonic Temple is a little bit under 5,000 people compared to the size of Little Caesars Arena which holds around 15,000 people. Her audience has more than tripled in the past year and a half.
As Carpenter toured with the one and only, Taylor Swift, she began to gain popularity. Opening for 26 of Swift’s shows, Carpenter gave the Eras Tour audience a taste of her music. With the Eras Tour being on such a large scale, Carpenter attracted many new fans. Alongside gaining fans from the Eras Tour, her two singles, “Espresso” and “Please Please Please”, from the “Short n’ Sweet” album also went viral, causing an even greater increase in fans.
As her popularity shot up, so did the ticket prices. For the Emails I Can’t Send Tour, I was able to buy my ticket for around $60 and was in the pit whereas for the Short n’ Sweet Tour I bought my ticket for $168 and was in the nosebleeds. Even with the larger number of tickets available, since there were more fans than tickets, it became significantly harder to buy tickets compared to her previous tours.
Carpenter has become the new pop princess of the music industry. Her rise to fame mixed with her talent on stage created an unforgettable concert experience. From “Taste” to “Tornado Warnings”, Carpenter has forever changed the definition of pop within the music industry.
