Gabby DiVita ‘26 has recently committed to the University of Nebraska to play D1 volleyball, a somewhat easy process, and the past eight years have prepared her for this new horizon of her life. She sheds light on what it was like to commit to her school and what took place.
After having her eyes set on Nebraska for a while, Divita committed in June and once she got the opportunity to talk to her options, it made it a straightforward process for her to narrow it down.
“It feels really good and was a very fast process,” DiVita said. “I had my eyes on playing in college for a long time. I kind of had my set schools going into June 15. When I was able to take calls, I took around seven and made up my mind by the end of the day, then committed on the 16th.”
After visiting Nebraska and meeting the whole staff that’s affiliated with the volleyball team, it made her decision ten times easier. Nebraska, having an amazing record, made her love for the sport and competing so easy.
“I love the coaching staff and I love all the girls on the team. It’s just a really good culture there,” DiVita said. “They are known for doing very big things. They’ve sold out every game since 2001, and it’s a cool environment. They strive to do really big things, which is something that I love.”
DiVita has worked hard these past eight years, as she developed a love for the sport for as long as she can remember. With a family of athletes, her older sister playing at Lipscomb has been a big motivation for her and someone for her to look up to. She hopes to inspire younger kids in her shoes.
“Advice I would give to younger kids would be to stick with the process, it’s different for everybody,” DiVita said. “It can be very long or very short but just keep working hard and have fun playing volleyball.”
DiVita, a very competitive athlete, will carry on her love for volleyball all the way to Nebraska. Having already visited the coaches and players on the team, DiVIta has found her new home away from home, where she can excel to her best performance.
“My favorite thing about playing volleyball is that it’s a team sport, and it’s a very competitive atmosphere.” DiVita said.
