This night is one of the most important informational meetings for parents, due to them not knowing much about their children’s classes and teachers. George Formicola, South’s Italian and Marketing teacher, makes sure to make this night as informative as possible. Formicola, as well as other South teachers, find it very important that their students’ parents know what is going to happen in their class throughout the year.
“I think it’s a great opportunity for parents to see more in-depth what their student is studying on a regular basis and be able to have open communication with the teacher of that class,” Formicola said.
For many parents, Back to School Night is a good way to get to know more about your child’s workload in a certain class. By learning more about their children’s classes, parents such as Mona Haurani are able to help their students study and keep them on track.
“It helped me understand the amount of studying and focus that’s going to have to go on this year based on all the AP classes we have scheduled for,” Haurani said.
Another perk of attending Back to School Night is getting to know the teachers. Throughout the year, parents will have many different encounters with their students’ parents. By being able to meet her students’ teachers early on in the year, Chelsea Groustra finds that it enhances those interactions.
“I love to put a face to a name, especially when they need to talk to us,” Groustra said. “It puts a human connection behind it.”
