In a tightly contested match-up at South, the junior varsity boys baseball team faced off against the Romeo Bulldogs on Monday, April 22. Despite a strong effort, South fell short, ultimately losing 6-1 in a well-fought game.
The game began with promising plays from both sides as the pitchers showcased their skills on the mound, keeping the batters on their toes. However, it was the Romeo Bulldogs who struck first, capitalizing on two well-executed singles in the top of the second inning to take an early lead of 1-0.
“Romeo got a few good hits early on and put us in a tough position,” Dane Lezotte ’26 said.
Undeterred by their deficit, South rallied together. Their defense tightened, making it difficult for the Bulldogs to extend their lead, while their offense responded to the Bulldogs to turn the tide of the game.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, South began an offensive drive with a combination of well-placed hits and strategic base running. A clutch hit drove in their lone run of the game, igniting hope for a potential comeback.
“After that one run, I was hoping we would keep the streak going, but their defense held strong,” Lezotte said.
As the game progressed into the late innings, both teams continued to battle fiercely. The Bulldogs managed to add to their lead with solid hits and aggressive base running while South fought to keep a win within reach.
Despite their best efforts, South ultimately fell short as the final inning ticked away Romeo emerged victorious with a final score of 6-1. Despite the loss, the team displayed tremendous determination, showcasing their resilience and sportsmanship. South remains determined, setting their sights on future victories yet to come.
