Tension rises as South’s JV Girls Basketball team hustles for the win against Port Huron Northern. With an 18-17 win and injuries on both sides, South’s girls came out on top.
With tensions high against two competitive teams, execution is weaved with nerves. Player performances dipped at the beginning of the game, but when South was at a loss, players Clara Bachert ‘27 and Margaret Blake ‘26 pulled their team to the top. The offensive and defensive duo helped bring the girls back to a proud win.
As athletes progress into the season, the first home game is a big deal. The most memorable moments engrain themselves in their minds and set the tone for the rest of the night.
After playing basketball all through middle school, Bachert reflects on how proud of her performance she is and how she performed as an individual contributing to her team.
“I think I did pretty good in the quarters I played. I opened up opportunities and got a lot of assists, even if I didn’t give them the points,” Bachert said.
Coaches of JV and Varsity alike praise Batchart’s plays and invite her to play for both teams in one night. As well as other athletes whose performance was commendable.
Defensive powerhouse Blake is proud of her execution in the game. After taking a break she pushed herself through practice to retain the skills she had lost. The relearned dynamics, dribbling, and shooting skills assisted Blake in maintaining her powerful plays throughout the game.
“I did well, especially on the defensive side. I helped my team but definitely was the aggressor,” Blake said.
