“In the pink” made it to the Grosse Pointe Village on Thursday Oct. 5th. The pink event expressed the importance of women’s health and awareness of breast cancer. At this event, there were booths all about breast cancer like the Chez LouLou Salon. This salon specializes in cosmetic makeup and restorative tattooing for breast cancer survivors.
Lindsay Trudell who is a licensed and trained artist in this service is excited to spread awareness.“I work with surgeons in Troy and want to help people and bring awareness to Grosse Pointe,” Trudell said.
Another perk of this event was the amazing professional talks given by multiple doctors in the Wilson Senior Center. The first talk was about reflexology with Cheryl Beshada where people learned that reflexology was a type of therapy where light pressure on reflex points on the feet and hands are used to reduce anxiety and nausea during chemo treatments.“If someone is having nausea or a headache, I can work those specific points and it makes a difference,” Beshada said.
Before leaving the event, there were many things people could have done. There were free screenings for head and neck cancer and blood pressure and mammography screenings on a mobile truck parked on Kercheval. There also were booths giving gift bags that varied from informational manuals about health to toothbrushes. The booth with the most people was the Ascension tent where they had a spin-the-wheel where you could get a variety of things, with a pink bag filled with informational papers about staying healthy. For this event to happen, everyone pitched in, including 20 stores with discounts, free goodies and snacks. The whole event was put on by Grosse Pointe Village and with everyone together, more people know how to keep themselves healthy and the importance of preventing breast cancer.
