How to celebrate while staying socially distanced
November 16, 2020
Due to the pandemic, many activities and places have been shut down or altered in order to meet the new standards of public living. One of the ways activities have been changed is by practicing social distancing from others. This can be difficult when you’re in a small space-especially with your friends or family because of the sense of familiarity and comfort that is around you.
Although social distancing has put a stop to large gatherings, this does not mean you have to stop celebrating the important moments of life. There are plenty of ways to celebrate with the people that you care about while still following social distancing guidelines. If celebrating a birthday, you could host a drive-through birthday. For a drive-through birthday, you can decorate your lawn and dress up for the guest of honor while cars stop to say hello, drop off presents, and the hosts can hand off cupcakes to the guests. While doing this, encountering some friendly party crashers following the crowd may be possible, and during these times the more is merrier.
Another way to celebrate a birthday is to organize a virtual event. The event could have a fun theme for guests to participate in and planned activities. This event choice allows for guests to see each other and communicate, while staying safe in the comfort of their homes. Similarly, one could also host a virtual movie night. Different streaming sites like Netflix have come out with screen-sharing capabilities that allows for participants to chat and watch the same movie in their own homes.
A different example could be an outside party filled with spaced-out, stationed activities. This would allow for guests to interact face-to-face with each other while still remaining socially distanced.
Lastly, you could have a simple celebration with the people in your own home. At the end of the day, when you’re with family you are home; and there is no better way to share a celebration with the people who withstood a global pandemic with you.
