“High Off Life” earns high marks

Future, one of the best known modern rappers, is well known for hit songs like “Mask Off” and more recently “Life is Good.” Recently, he released his new studio album “High Off Life.”
Future has been having a great year so far, appearing on multiple albums and releasing the hit single “Life is Good” with Drake. Some examples of albums he has been on this year include Nav’s “Good Intentions” where he had a feature on “My Business.” I think Future’s year got even better with this album’s release.
The album features artists along the likes of Lil Uzi Vert, Travis Scott, Lil Baby, NBA Youngboy, Young Thug, Lil Durk and Meek Mill, all well known artists in the game. I think that the features were the best part of this album, with my personal favorites being “Trillionaire” with NBA Youngboy and “Solitaires” with Travis Scott.
In “Trillionaire”, I think Youngboy really delivered his iconic vocal style on this song. Future also forms a pretty good duo in this song with him, creating a smooth delivery of vocals and the beat on this song is honestly one of the best on the album.
In “Solitaires”, I think Travis Scott carried this song. I didn’t really care for Future’s verses on this song in all honesty. They sounded pretty generic but Travis came and mixed it up a little which made this one of the best songs on this album.
Whilst the features were excellent, the singles were not something to shake a stick at. Songs like “Trapped in the Sun” in the opening really hit hard and in turn the album got off to a good start for me. However, I think Future fell short on some singles such as “HiTek Tek” and “Touch the Sky”, which sound pretty generic for Future’s style. Future’s singles are pretty one-dimensional and end up sounding the same if you listen to the entire album in one sitting, but that doesn’t mean they are necessarily bad songs.
The album overall had some very high highs but it also hit some lows. For this, I think “High Off Life” deserves a 8.4/10, adding onto an already so far stacked year for Future.
