After just stocking all of the geometry books for the upcoming year’s academics, a catastrophe unfolded when one of the employees working at the bookstore found a slip on the ground belonging to one of the books, leading my friend and I to unstack all of the books in order to find the book that matched the slip.
Though all of the books had just been stacked, nobody actually minded doing all of the extra work finding the correct book due to the lighthearted mood that working at the bookstore emitted. The feeling in the air was always light. People were always talking, laughing, smiling, listening to music and, even though we were working during the summer instead of sleeping in or hanging out with our friends, it didn’t really seem as though anybody really minded working at the school.
During one of the days when we were preparing for registration, we even played a game of trivia with Mr. Dalby, another one of the workers. He would ask us a random question and everybody would shout answers that would come to mind until somebody finally got it right.
It was a part-time job, so I was able to get the feel of what a real job would be like without having to work all day, every day. Every job I have ever had was mowing lawns or helping my neighbors. Though, with this job, there was no slacking and every moment that I was late, the more it affected the people that worked around me. Since it was my first year working for the bookstore, parents and teenagers alike who had been working there for a year or two welcomed me with open arms.
A large majority of the work was to pile up all of the books that were used over the years and get them ready to be redistributed for registration at the end of summer.
During the week of registration, it was fun to see all my friends that I didn’t get the chance to over the summer and be able to look over their schedules so I could get a sneak peek at who might be in my classes.
When I was just starting out at the bookstore I went into it with the mindset that it was going to be a job like any other, but instead, I came out with the knowledge of how to be a helpful member in a working environment.
