Single people in the wintertime

January 9, 2017

The holidays are a time to grab your loved ones and spend some quality time with one another. But if you’re reading this, that means, like me, you are single for the holidays. Which is not a bad thing at all.  The key to being single over the holidays is family and friends, to go on adventures or even just hang out. Being single during the holidays doesn’t mean you have to be alone for the holidays.

  1. Go skiing

Grab a couple of buddies or your family and go on an adventure up to Pine Knob, Mt. Holly or even up to Brighton and hit the slopes. It is a fairly inexpensive trip and an all around fun time.  All of these places are at most an hour trip and all places have ski rental and food making it an ideal day trip.

  1. Play in the snow

Since Grosse Pointe was hit with 10 inches of snow in the last couple of weeks, take advantage of it while it is here. Some fun ideas are heading up to Balduck or one of the parks with a sled and some friends, make a snow fort or have a good old fashioned snowball fight with a rival friend group. Take advantage of the snow while it’s here.

  1. Stay local

There are a ton of fun things to do in the Detroit area. Head down to Hamtramck and check out the fowling warehouse with your family and friends. And for those that don’t know, fowling is football bowling combined where you throw a football at some pins to knock them down. If that is too “advanced,” try real bowling at the local lanes; it is a cheap, fun time for the whole family.

  1. Go skating

Campus Martius has a great rink, with skate rental, that could be fun for the whole family. Whether you are a beginner or an expert on the ice, skating is a fun thing to do with family and friends. If you don’t feel like making the trip downtown, go to the local park and lace up the skates.  They all have a good rink to skate around.  Bring some cocoa and have some laughs with family and friends.

  1. Stay at home and relax by the fire

Netflix is a magical thing.  Unlimited Christmas movies and TV shows at your disposal.  Curl up on the couch with a blanket and the fireplace roaring and settle into a Christmas movie marathon.  This activity can be enjoyed by yourself or with family and friends.
Just because you are single over the holiday season doesn’t mean you need to be alone.  There are plenty of fun activities to do with family and friends so it is important to take advantage of them while you still can. Whether you go on snowy adventures with your friends or snuggle up on the couch watching Christmas movies all day, there is always something to do.
