Donating over 1,200 items to the Sweet Dreamzzz foundation, the first annual Winter Spirit week was a success, Freshmen Class Adviser Mike Rennell said.
For each day of the week, there was a theme that designated what students should bring to donate. The first day was for blankets or sleeping bags; overall the school brought in between 40 and 50 blankets, Rennell said.
“Spirit week went great, there was a lot of participation,” said Freshmen Class President Brendan Labadie. “Not just with wearing clothes on each day, but we also got a ton of donations for Sweet Dreamzzz, too.”
Other themed donations were socks as well as toothbrushes and toothpaste. A total of 50 pairs of socks were donated and between toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes, over a 1,000 items were donated to Sweet Dreamzzz.
“We’re hopefully going to move the Glow Out Dance to the end of Winter Spirit Week next year so it’s like a winter homecoming, and actually have events every day and maybe have some banners by the classes and actually turn it in to something special,” said Rennell.
The week was planned last minute this year and with more time to plan next year students will participate even more, Rennell said. Although it was a success this year, the Freshmen Class Council hopes to expand next year.
“I think it went well, but we’ll need to think of new ideas and promote it more for next year,” said Olivia Wouters ’16.
