If you are looking for something fun to do over break, check out the Tower Pulse’s top ten favorite places to go.
1. Boyne Mountain
Boyne is a nice family-friendly ski resort that suits the typical snowboarder or skiier. It’s a perfect place to go over Christmas break to ski and they have a very nice hotel and waterpark. In my opinion, Boyne Mountain is much better than Boyne Highlands and Nubs-Nob.
2. Otsego Ski Resort
Otsego is known for their olympic size halfpipe and their “O Park” which is a complex and difficult terrain park for more expert skiers and snowboarders. If you’re looking for a more challenging ski resort in Michigan and more privacy, this is the perfect place to go.
3. Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker (Fox Theatre downtown)
This is a great show for families around the holidays. The show is on Sunday Dec. 22 at 5 p.m. in downtown Detroit. The show features 200 new costumes for the dancers and will be a sight to see.
4. Mount Holly Ski Resort
This is a great local ski resort that’s only an hour away from Grosse Pointe. It’s the best one around compared to Pine Knob and Mt. Brighton. Mt. Holly is a fun place to go just for a day trip.
5. Campus Martius
Ice skating downtown is a fun time especially around Christmas. There’s a huge Christmas tree that people can admire while skating on the huge rink. Campus Martius is a great place to be with friends and family.
6. Joe Louis Arena (Red Wings game)
The Red Wings are always fun to watch, especially over break. Even though they have not been successful lately, their recent overtime win against the Calgary Flames proves the Wings have potential this season.
7. Somerset Mall
Somerset Mall is a great venue for holiday shopping. The mall is decked with holiday lights and decorations, which makes holiday shopping much more enjoyable.
8. Great Lakes Invitational (Hockey Games at Comerica Park all break)
What’s better than a Red Wings game? Watching several hockey games all break downtown at Comerica Park. They set up a rink outside on the infield for fans to come watch and cheer on their local or favorite hockey teams.
9. Zac Brown Band (News Years Eve at Joe Louis)
This concert was on New Years Eve at the Joe last year and is a fun way to end the year of 2013 and celebrate the beginning of 2014. Any concert on New Years Eve would be fun and this year it’s Zac Brown Band again kicking off the start of a new year.
10. Balduck Hill
No one is too old for sledding. And what better place than Balduck in Detroit for this activity. You can slide down the wide open front part of the hill or the tricky, dangerous back trails. You don’t have to necessarily bring a sled, rather improvise with a shopping cart or any other sled- like items you can think of.
