FEAR OF MISSING OUT An aspect of social media that has seemed to increase the amount of usage of it is the amount of news and current events that are discussed on these apps. “It’s entirely possible for there to be a disconnect between people who aren’t on social media and those who are,” Parent said. “If you’re not on it, you’re missing out on a lot of memes and viral content, so I can imagine for people who aren’t on it, there can be a sense of distance or isolation.”

Genevieve Boutrous ’23 is a staff writer this year. Boutrous likes that in Tower, there is such a large variety of directions to take, and there's no wrong story to cover. This year, she wants to cover more sports events and even do a podcast. Boutrous has come a long way in her journalism career—at first she used to be very nervous about interviewing people, but now she loves this process and learning about people's lives. Her dream school is Penn State University and she wants to go into sports journalism or political science. Boutrous also enjoys sports. She loves to watch college football as well as swim and play lacrosse at South.“I'm a Hydrangea Kitchen enthusiast-- it's my favorite,” Boutrous said, “My favorite thing ever is the brie, butter and apple sandwich and the vanilla lemonade.”
