Fashion show set to raise funds for scholarships, preservation

MIKEY SULLIVAN ’13 | Staff Writer

South’s main gym will be turned into a fashion runway, where students will sport trendy clothing from local stores, Mothers’ Club President Allison Baker said.

The annual fashion show put on by the Mothers’ Club, will be held on April 24 from noon to 3 p.m, said Baker. The title of the show this year is “The Fashion Must Go On” and will be based off of a musical theater theme.

Some local stores contributing clothes are Joseph A. Bank, Brooks Brothers and Village Palm (for a full list of contributors and sponsors see below), said Baker. The models’ hair styling will be provided by Edwin Paul Salon and the makeup will be done by Arbonne.

“We have over 300 students participating doing everything from modeling, designing and entertaining,” Baker said. “The Fashion and Fabrics class will be showcasing their original designs and students in the Choir, Orchestra and Jazz Band will be providing the entertainment, while the National Honor Society Students will be ushers and help assist the caterers.”

Neal Jeup ’13, who has been doing the fashion show since he was a freshman, said it’s a great way to show off local businesses and raise money for the school.

“I’ve worn things from three-piece tuxedos to casual summer clothes but all the stores donate amazing clothes,” said Jeup. “And it’s pretty fun too.”

Evan Enders ’13, who also has modeled in the fashion show since he was a freshman, said he is excited for the show as well.

“The fashion show is just great fun all around,” Enders said.

Tickets cost $35 and include the show and the luncheon, Baker said . They can be purchased by e-mailing the Mothers’ Club at [email protected]. Proceeds will be used for classroom enrichment projects, preservation of the historic building, and scholarships for graduating seniors.

“Last year the fashion show (proceeds) rose just over $30,000. As of today we are right on track to do just as well or even better this year,” said Baker, one week before the event.

Along with the show, the Mothers’ Club will de raffling off many prizes, including a week vacation in a private home on Fripp Island, SC, to an eight person spa day from Neiman Marcus (for full list of prizes see below), Baker said. Raffle tickets cost $20 for a book of five and can be purchased online at http://shop.mothersclubgps.com/.
