I can say with confidence that Disney’s live-action adaptation of “Snow White” makes my list of the top five worst movies to ever exist. When the 109 minutes of that movie wrapped up, I was seriously confused as to how it even got released to the public. From the costumes to the acting, this movie should have never left Disney’s headquarters.
I definitely was not expecting much when I went into the movie theater to watch “Snow White” due to the fact that Disney’s remakes of the classics have continued to flop at the box office time and time again. The movie had a budget of 270 million dollars, and managed to make the costumes look like they came off of the clearance rack at Party City.
I thought that costumes would be the least difficult thing for the movie to pull off, however I was miserably mistaken the second that Snow White’s iconic dress came on screen. The kids that dress up as Snow White on Halloween looked more like the character than Rachal Zegler did. And they probably had a 10-dollar budget.
As someone who has seen “The Hunger Games: A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” I was expecting Zegler to use the same amazing acting skills that she displayed in that movie, however, I was met with acting that looked like I could pull it off myself. I don’t blame the acting entirely on Zegler, because it is clear that the producers gave her nothing to work with.
Not only was the acting tough to watch, but so was the singing. Every song sounded extremely autotuned, and not fitting in the time period that the movie is meant to take place. The singing sounded more like it could be played at a Kidz Bop show rather than at a castle in the 16th century.
Aside from the costumes, acting and singing, the only thing that I truly enjoyed while watching the so-called film was the computer-generated deer that appeared numerous times throughout the movie. If I am being honest, they did a better job at their roles in the movie than every other actor in it.
Disney has not been able to pull off a successful live adaptation of one of their movies since the live-action “Cinderella.” That movie came out 10 years ago. You would think that Disney would have figured out how to get the hang of it, but they have not.
If you are a “Snow White” fan and have been looking forward to experiencing this mess of a movie, I would advise you to put your money towards something that won’t make you want to escape the movie theater every five minutes.
