On December 9 at 2:30 p.m, Grosse Pointe South head football coach Tim Brandon handed in his letter of resignation. After being in this position for 15 years, Brandon said he has accomplished his goals at South and that it’s time to move on to new endeavors.

“My number one goal when I took the job as head football coach at South was to build this once-storied program back to its former glory,” Brandon said. “I believe that we (have been able to) have achieved this goal and beyond.”

According to Brandon’s letter, his decision to resign has been challenging for him as he appreciates the relationships and memories he has formed within the South football program. Brandon hopes that a new leader will be able to take over and continue to better the team.

“I truly believe though, that as a leader, it is important to know when it is time to step aside and let a new leader with new ideas, energy and vision take over,” Brandon said. “This is that time.”

Brandon said that he will miss the players that he has watched grow over the years. He said that sharing the joys and sorrows of high school football will “be in my heart forever.”

“Watching [the players] grow from the impish eighth graders I met during our trips to the middle schools into the strong confident young men that they inevitably became has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life,” Brandon said.

Brandon wishes to thank his fellow coaches for their commitment and hard work. The search for a new head coach will begin immediately. Assistant coach Chad Hepner will be the interim head coach for the time being.

“I would like to thank every coach who has dedicated their time and effort to the game of
football, our players and the program,” Brandon said. “None of our accomplishments could have possibly been achieved without their knowledge, hard work and sacrifice.”
