With vaccines being rolled out and restrictions beginning to be lifted, many restaurants are starting the slow process of opening back up to full capacity and allowing customers back into their dining rooms. The list below includes four of Grosse Pointe’s best restaurants, according to Tripago, that have recently opened back up.
Number 1, The Original Pancake House.
Since opening in 1962, The Original Pancake House has been serving up breakfast delights day in and day out. They offer a variety of different foods to choose from including pastries, french toast, pancakes and gluten free options for those with allergies. Every day, excluding holidays, they are open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will provide you with great food whenever you decide to go. However, because they do not provide a delivery service, in order to get your fluffy pancakes you must either dine in the restaurant or opt for the curbside pickup. To order online, go to their website, The Original Pancake House – Michigan’s Favorite Pancake House (oph-mi.com).
Number 2, Side Street Dinner
Offering a wide variety of food, it’s easy to see why they’re a favorite among people in Grosse Pointe. They serve omelets and pancakes in the morning as well as a less traditional breakfast burrito filled with eggs, veggies and sausage. For lunch and dinner they offer higher end meals like salmon oscar but also serve feel good foods like fish n’ chips as well as classic mac and cheese. They are located in the village by CVS and Trader Joe’s and serve breakfast, dinner and lunch all day long. Their daily hours during the week are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with weekend hours being 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. where they offer delivery and dine in eating. To place your order for delivery, call 313-884-6810.
Number 3, Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe
Located in the hill, they are known as much for their music as they are for their food. They offer high end foods like crab cakes, duck fettuccine, roast salmon filet and grilled calamari. They offer a carryout menu Tuesday through Thursday going from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. To place a carryout order call 313-882-5299. If you prefer to dine in, you will have to wait for a live jazz concert to take place, with the next available upcoming concert set to perform March 10th through the 13th. Each band will perform for roughly a half an hour while you enjoy your meal. For more information about the shows visit their website at Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe | Live Jazz | Fine Dining | Grosse Pointe.
Number 4, Joesf’s European Pastry
Although it may be quite the drive for students at South as it is located in the Woods, the food is definitely worth the drive. Founded in 1971, they offer a wide range of European pastries, as the name suggests, ranging all the way from elaborate wedding cakes down to more simple pastries. They also offer coffee and a relaxing environment to enjoy your delicious pastries. Another unique thing about this bakery is that you can make special requests on their website. If you wish to make a special request or learn more about the shop, their website is Josef’s European Pastry Shop | Grosse Pointe Woods, MI (josefspastryshop.com).
