Dessert Oasis Coffee is worth the indulgence

Immediately encompassed by the wholesome smell of coffee and the sight of delicious cake, Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters, made a good first impression on me. The cafe, located on Griswold and State in downtown Detroit, is best known for their picture perfect lattes and delectable cheesecakes.

Walking into the cafe I was met by a short line. I ordered the ‘Bailey Cheesecake’ and their ‘Signature Hot Chocolate’. As I am not a coffee drinker, I had a friend join me who is one; she ordered the ‘Honey Cinnamon Latte’. Both of us were very pleased with our choices. With a total price of around $13, the menu was fairly priced. As our orders were brought to our table, the service was very good.

The hot chocolate was unlike any other I have ever had before. I was immediately drawn to its ‘Insta-Worthy’ foam on top and had to take pictures. It had a strong rich taste and a thick consistency, both features added to the deliciousness. The hot chocolate tasted as though it was made with real, high quality chocolate. Despite the hot chocolate being very enjoyable, the cake was my favorite. Although I am not a huge cake person, I’m a sucker for cheesecake and chocolate– and this cake had both. Served on a clean white plate, the cake was also very aesthetically pleasing. But aside from its good looks, its rich flavor was unmatched. Topped with a chocolate layer and surrounded by a crunchy graham cracker-crust, the cheesecake had a lot going for it.

The cafe didn’t have that small-cozy cafe type of atmosphere. Instead, it had more of an open feel. It is definitely the type of place that one could go into and get some work done, stop in for a quick coffee on the way to work, or meet up with friends for a small bite to eat. Inside, the cafe had a lot of seating ranging from tables to a countertop area. One thing I made sure to look out for was cleanliness and the cafe definitely had it. In the back there was a small stage for live performances.

I would most definitely return to Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters, sooner than later because I’ve

been craving the cheesecake ever since.
