She began at South, roaming the hallways, studying in the classrooms and, unknowingly, would be working at a top Detroit company and running a popular “foodie” Instagram account in just a few years.

Lyndsey Walworth ’11 currently works in the automotive news department at Crain Communications.

“I got hired as an event marketing coordinator and now I’m an event marketing specialist,” Walworth said. “I work various events throughout the year, some more automotive focused, others more marketing, depending on the event.”

Working with sponsors such as Ally (a financial services company), General Motors and Google, Walworth coordinates the possible booths a company may have at an event, or ensure that the event speakers and sponsors are registered and prepared.

“Each day is kind of different. Depending on the size of the event, there could be 15 to 20 sponsors,” Walworth said. “So I work with them, and attendees, on the logistics and booth displays.”

Aside from Walworth’s job at Crain’s, she also runs a Detroit food and lifestyle Instagram account, called wineanddinedetroit.

“I started the account about two and a half years ago with a few friends after my mom encouraged me to make something out of my frequent dining in Detroit,” Walworth said.

The account, with now 4,300 followers, features dishes from all over the city. From restaurants like BESA Detroit, Vinsetta Garage and Republic, to even homemade meals in Grosse Pointe.

Through this instagram account, Walworth has had the opportunity to attend restaurant openings and even collaborate with brands.

“I have a few different brands that have reached out to me by sending free things, or products they would like me to photograph,” Walworth said. “A pasta company just sent me some food items the other day, so it’s quite cool.”

Overall, Walworth said she enjoys both her job at Crain’s and the account she runs on the side.

“It’s nice to be downtown while working for Crain Communications,” Walworth said. “And the instagram account is fun too, it’s a hobby on the side, and there a lot of opportunities that come with it.”
