Leland Tyler Wayne, otherwise known as famous rap producer Metro Boomin, dropped a new album called ‘Not All Heroes Wear Capes’. It was released Nov. 2, 2018 and includes many notable features. This album’s songs have a lot of similarity, but overall it is a good album.

The album cover for ‘Not All Heroes Wear Capes.’

Some features include Gucci Mane, 21 Savage, Travis Scott, Drake, Gunna, Swae Lee, Kodak Black and more. Metro added in ‘No Complaints’ which is a track he released in 2017 with Drake and Offset. This song, although it is not new, is one of the better songs on the album.

The downside of having rappers like 21 Savage and Gucci Mane is that they have very boring voices and the songs they rap in can come off as too flat. They are featured in four of the 13 songs and a couple of those are some of the weaker songs on the album.

Metro features rap stars Gunna and Kodak Black. Gunna was featured on young rapper Lil Baby’s album ‘Drip Harder’ which was a huge success and one of the best albums of the year. Kodak Black was just released from prison in August and dropped the song ‘Zeze’, featuring Offset and Drake which is extremely popular. Offset and Drake are also featured on this album.

In April of 2018, Metro announced via Instagram that he was a ‘retired producer’, which implied that he would end producing. Yet later in the year, he helped produce Nicki Minaj’s album ‘Queen’ and Lil Wayne’s album ‘Tha Carter V’. Both of those albums were in the top five on Billboard’s top 200.

Rapper Swae Lee is also featured in the album. The addition of him to the album provides a different style of rap that diversifies the music on the album. The songs that he is in are very fast and upbeat compared to other songs that are slower.

My personal favorites from the album are ‘Dreamcatcher’ featuring Swae Lee and Travis Scott and ‘Space Cadet’ featuring Gunna. These songs are catchy and are a balance between having a fast beat and slow beat.

Dreamcatcher starts off slow with Swae Lee and then as you get into the song the beat picks up. About halfway through the song Travis Scott takes over and the song continuously switches speeds. Space Cadet starts with the sounds of a space shuttle radio and then the beat comes in and Gunna starts. Gunna is the only artist featured and the song is three minutes and 23 seconds, although it is lengthy he does a great job of mixing it up to hold the listener’s attention.

The most popular songs, according to Apple Music, are Overdue featuring Travis Scott, Don’t Come out the House featuring 21 Savage, Space cadet featuring Gunna and 10 Freaky Girls featuring 21 Savage.

Overall, this album gets a 9/10 because of the sort of dark style that has made Metro Boomin such a successful producer. The notable features make the album legitimate and better as a whole. Metro did a great job producing an album with such different artists, while still making it his style.
