Varsity tennis team defeats North

By JD Standish ’18 | Staff Writer

The boys varsity tennis team was victorious against North, 5-3, this Wednesday, Sept. 16. Key wins came from captains Jacob Schwessinger, Kevin Dietz, Patrick Willard and Nick Costakis, all ’16, John Sullivan ’17, Teddy Sweeney ’18 and Sean Miller ’19.

“I think we played pretty well. We kind of had a lapse in concentration in the second set and it kind of dropped off a little bit, but we pulled it together very well,” Schwessinger said.

Schwessinger said the match is normally not that close.

“We had a lot of matches coming up to this one; we had three last week, one Monday and a quick but intense practice on Tuesday to get us prepared.”

However, Sweeney said he felt that he played fairly well.

“I felt that I stayed in a lot of rallies and made him (my opponent) miss which is what I needed to do,” Sweeney said.

Because of this win, the team is now second in the MAC Red division.

The next match will be tomorrow, Sept. 18, against the University of Liggett.
