Fifth and final ‘Twilight’ movie exceeds expectations

Fifth and final Twilight movie exceeds expectations

By Carly Walkowiak ’14 | Staff Writer

After four years of midnight premiers, “twihards” and teenage heartthrobs have seen the “Twilight” series go out with a bang.

The final movie of the series, “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part Two,” was by far the best film adaptation of all four romantic novels. John Condon was the best director out of all five movies because he wasn’t afraid to make it different from the rest of the movies.

Typically, film adaptations don’t come near the works of the author, and that was the case with the last four movies.  However, the final movie in the series, “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part Two,” was truly better than the New York Times Best Selling book.

The movie began with Bella, played by Kristen Stewart, getting use to her new life as a vampire, which included her first time hunting with Edward.  Although the special effects weren’t pleasing or convincing, especially in this scene, it didn’t seem to impact my enjoyment of the movie. It was still very surprising how well they improved the special effects of the vampires in comparison to the previous films.

Another special effect that didn’t do the movie justice was having Edward and Bella’s daughter, Renesmee, computer generated for about half of the movie. When Mackenzie Foy replaced the computer versions of Renesmee, she was charming and adorable and portrayed the character wonderfully.

As always, the actors that played the parts of the Cullen family did a marvelous job.  Compared to the other films, the acting in this movie was right on the money, even Kristen Stewart excelled in her performance.

As for the story line, The Cullen family is accused of a crime they did not commit, the crime being Renesmee being an immortal child. When in actuality, she was something so rare that they thought she was the only one half mortal, half immortal.

Once the Volturi get informed of what they think is true, they come to Forks to fight and kill the entire Cullen family. As a result, the Cullen family reaches out to their fellow vampires around the world for the sake of witnesses when they try to prove to the Volturi that Renesmee isn’t harmful.

Watching the movie was nerve-racking because the special effects weren’t on par. Due to the poor special effects quality, I thought that what was supposed to be the best part in all four books, the battle scene, was going to be ruined.  Thankfully, it ended up being the best movie scene in the saga.

Even though this movie was able to thrive because it had the best story line out of the entire saga, it was expected to be disappointing because the past movies have not met the quality of the books. However, this movie met and exceeded the quality of the book. Whether you have read the book or not, “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part Two” is a film that will keep you interested throughout.
