Photos: Varsity Soccer team beats North 6-5, honors military veterans

Ethan Duffield ’13 | Staff Writer

Before the North v. South soccer game, veterans were honored and recognized in a ceremony involving the players of both teams. Each players jersey had the name of a veteran adorned on the back and players shook hands with the veterans before the start of the game.

“Having the veterans there was really special,” said team captain Alex Detwiler ’13 via text message. “It gave us a bigger reason to go out and get the win.”

On a night of veteran tribute, the men’s varsity soccer team remained focused and took care of business, defeating North 6-5 ending in a game deciding shootout.

North scored in the first half and South quickly answered with a goal of their own. No more goals were scored, until South added a goal in the middle of the second half and North tied the score up, ending regulation with a score of 2-2.

In the shootout, South tallied four goals while North only tallied three giving the Blue Devils the victory.

“To beat North in my last home game is a dream come true,” said Josh Carolan ’13 via text message. “Now we need to focus on the post season.”
