On April 23, 2016, Beyoncé released her controversial “lemonade” album. This being her sixth solo album caused a lot of stir with the public considering its suggestive message of her husband, Jay-Z cheating on her with “Becky with the good hair”.

The album is her second visual album, which was conveniently released through Jay-Z’s company, Tidal, which is a music streaming website. The album offers a variety of songs but all of them are enriched with the rage she seems to have on her unfaithful husband.

Lemonade was a big twist for “Queen Bee” since she seemingly poured out all of her feelings and marriage problems through an entire problem, which the fans have never seen from Beyoncé. As usual, she did not disappoint her fans, earning her the number four slot for top albums in the United States.

Her fans all interpreted their own meaning to the songs on the album. Many fans felt empowered by her usual strong message of girl power, and how you don’t need a man to be complete.

Jay-Z and Beyoncé are undoubtedly one of the most well known couples, and to many they put the couple on a pedestal as “relationship goals”, yet this album proves all of those concepts wrong.

With the album releasing through Jay-Z’s company, it caused a lot of controversy considering the album must have gone through him before being produced. Many believe that the seemingly power couple produced the album as a publicity stunt, which worked. Some of the most observed moments from the album were her throwing her wedding ring at the camera, as well as claiming if he cheats on her again,  their child, Blue Ivy and Beyoncé would leave him.

The album, which was first previewed at the Super Bowl halftime show, was expected by most to be a politically based album, as based on her performance of the song “formation”, since it used Malcolm X as an example, as well as had an appearance from Trayvon Martin’s mother.

The album’s title of Lemonade comes from Beyoncé’s 90 year old grandmother-in-law, Hattie White who endorsed the saying of when life gives you lemons to make lemonade, which also served as a foundation for her political beliefs.

Whether the album was in fact a publicity stunt, or if it was a way for her to tell the public about her marriage problems Beyoncé, as usual, did not fail to entertain her millions of fans.
