On Thursday, Apr. 14, the South boys golf team defeated Grosse Pointe North at Lochmoor Club with a score of 152 strokes to 177 strokes.

The team was led by captain Teddy Schoof ’17 with a score of 36, followed by a 38 from Evan Theros ‘18 and 39s from both David Scupholm ’17 and Coalter Smith ‘19.

“It was a great team win, going to Lochmoor and beating North by that much,” Scupholm said. “It gave people more experience heading into the rest of the season which will be a big benefit headed into the rest of the season.”

The matches consist of nine holes where the top four scores count for the match, the lowest score wins the match, Scupholm said.

The JV team also left Lochmoor with a win on Thursday. Team scoring was led by Jeff Buhl ’17 with a 41, Howie Crane ’17 with a 42, Michael Rivard ’17 with a 44 and Evan Skaff ’18 with a 45.

“JV gives the kids who don’t have the same tournament experience as some of the upperclassmen a chance to get in the matches and gain experience,” Buhl said. “This will be a huge benefit to the team in the future when they become upperclassmen.”

The team currently has not lost a match and has placed second in both the U of D Invitational and the Birmingham Invitational falling to Catholic Central by just 4 strokes, Scupholm said.

Upcoming events for the boys golf team are a match against Eisenhower at Gownie Country Club on Apr. 21, then they head out to Traverse City next weekend for the Traverse City Invitational.
