Student Association and Class officer elections held tomorrow

Student+Association
Student Association

By Olivia Sheffer ’17 | Staff Writer

Student government elections for Student Association are taking place this Wednesday, Apr. 20, advisor of Student Association, Laura Distelrath said.

Student Association at Grosse Pointe South is in charge of school wide events, Distelrath said.

Each year, students run for positions of their desire, Distelrath said. The positions available to run for are President, Vice President, Secretary, Historian and Treasurer.

“For a student to be apart of Student Association and editorial board, they need to be: responsible, able to communicate, a proactive individual, invested in the school and able to think critically about how we can improve our events,” Distelrath said.

Student Association is responsible for hosting school wide events, such as the dodgeball marathon, Mr.Blue Devil, Food for Friends, Adopt a Family and organizing homecoming events, she said.

Presidential candidate, Logan Cholody ’17 thinks that he best fits this position because of his work ethic.

“I have not stopped working since I joined Student Association and there has been no down time for me,” Cholody said.” “I like when i’m busy because I fully commit myself  to Student Association and it has really defined who I am as a South student.

Cholody is currently a chair for the publicity committee, which does advertising for the Student Association, he said. They make posters, flyers, decorate the rock and are in charge of social media for the school to find out about these events.

“As president, I would like to be seen as one of their teammates, as I am now, who although, would happen to have a lot more responsibility,” Cholody said.

Along with Cholody, the other presidential candidates for SA are Zoe Evans ’17 and Daniel Kuhnlein ’17.

For Anthony Kolesky ’17, who is running unopposed as the Vice President candidate, has had experience in both Student Council as President, as well as a senator in Student Association, he said.

“I think my experience in both student council and Student Association make me a qualified candidate,” Kolesky said. “I know how both clubs run and what needs to be done to improve them and I think my dedication to the student government in many different forms makes me deserving of this position.”

Kolesky was in charge of Adopt a Family this year, and is currently helping out with the canned food drive, he said.

As he helps out with different committees, he gets to see how others cooperate, Distelrath said.

“It is really great to see kids that work hard during the year to see them get elected into positions to get involved, and for me, it’s awesome to see the growth that kids go through whether it’s from the beginning of the school year to the end of, or others that are involved in Student Association for all four years,” Distelrath said.

Students can cast their votes before and after school, and during both lunches in the auditorium, on Wednesday.

“I encourage people to go and vote for the people they think will best represent their opinions and the direction that they want South to be moving in” Distelrath said.
