This past Saturday, Mar. 12, the girls hockey team looked to defend their state championship title against the Mercy Marlins at the Arctic Edge Ice Arena in Canton.

Mercy struck first in the game but couldn’t hold the Blue Devils down very long as Maria DiCresce ‘18 buried a goal to tie up the game at one.  As the game went on Mercy scored again to go up 2-1 but Maria DiCresce answered the bell for a second time and netted her second goal of the game to tie it up 2-2.  Mercy wasn’t held down long as they took a 3-2 lead and held off the Blue Devils power plays multiple times to gain the State Title.

“After the difficult loss on Saturday I’d say the team as a whole learned a lot about what it really takes to win and that no reward comes without hard work,” Shannon McKenna ‘17 said.

Now that the season is over, the seniors that are graduating from the team are forwards Gennie Martin, Emma Frame and goaltender Isabella Strickler.

“Having made it to the state championship two years in a row was an honor and we hope to be back there next year,” McKenna said.
