A chipped nail and streaky spray tan could be classified as a monstrosity when it comes to the primping, prepping and priming for a homecoming dance. This is exactly why a strict schedule is necessary. Without further adeu: a girl’s guide to homecoming.

Months before:

A month (or three, if you’re an overachiever) before the homecoming dance is the perfect time to start the dreaded dress hunt. It’s a complicated and overwhelming part of homecoming; however, when you find the perfect dress, everything else seems to fall into place. This is also a good time to find shoes and accessories to compliment your dress, so take the time to find what you’re looking for. If you’re a late shopper and have not gotten a dress, don’t stress because last-minute dress shopping is always a success.

Week of:

The week of homecoming is both exciting and chaotic. During spirit week, our bodies are wired on school spirit and coffee brought on by the lack of sleep, and yet this week is so important for preparations. If getting a tan is something you want, then this week is the perfect time to hit up the tanning beds or as a safer option, a spray tan booth. If there are any mishaps, the color has enough time to fade appropriately. This week is also a good time to get your nails done, if not the day of homecoming. The week of homecoming is a week to pamper, so take the time out of your busy schedule to relax and treat yourself.

Day of:

Homecoming day is the most important day of all preparations. Get a good night of sleep the night before so you wake up feeling energized and ready to have some fun. Getting your hair and makeup done is optional of course, however it is exciting to have a professional “doll” you up. Inviting your friends over and getting ready together is half the fun. Anticipation builds as you zip your dress and buckle your heels for one of the best nights of the year.

Enjoy the preparation of homecoming and have fun at the dance!
