On Saturday, May 30, the varsity girls tennis team placed third in the state at the Midland Tennis Center.

Head Coach Mark Sobieralski said that when six of the eight flights advanced to the semifinals, he really thought they had a great chance to win it all. The players that South’s number one, two and three singles players lost to in the semi-finals went on to win the state title at that flight. In addition to the three doubles team that South lost to.

“We all played hard each round and even though it wasn’t the outcome we wanted, I know we did the best we could,” Raven Neely ’16 said. “We wouldn’t have made it this fat to states without each other, we were all there for one another.”

Maggie Sweeney ’15 said that the team is very proud of what they accomplished this season, and that they all put forth their best effort.

Sobieralski explained that none of the singles players this year were seniors, and that the junior varsity team was very strong this year at the top.

“Those kids will be working very hard this summer to help keep the tradition going,” Sobieralski said.
