The boys varsity lacrosse team defeated North last night, April 29 with a score of 9-7.

South was tied 5-5 at half with their arch rival and changed some things around coming out in the second half.

“At halftime we realized we were tied and that our intensity was not there, so we picked our heads up got out in the second half and played some better lacrosse,” George Boettcher ’15 said.  “Overall I think that our team played some decent lacrosse, I definitely think we could have played better but the intensity we usually have wasn’t there at all and that’s the main reason we only put up nine goals rather than 15.”

North was able to score so many goals because we were taking some bad penalties and putting ourselves in bad situations, captain Aidan Hubbell ’15 said.

“We need to take less penalties, that has been a huge problem all season,” J.D. Norris ’15 said.  “Our effort was there at times and other times it was not, but momentum turned slightly at the end of the half.”

Most of the goals came down to being in the right place at the right time, Norris said.

“At halftime we took some time as captains and addressed the intensity and what we needed to do second half to pull ahead,” Hubbell said. “We really just picked up the intensity all over the field and the sideline towards the end of the game.”

We could improve on execution of simple things; even though the intensity was good we still didn’t play that smart at times, Hubbell said.

“None of us want to lose against North on our home turf and it seemed pretty obvious, so everyone turned it up a notch and gave it their all to pull out the win in the end,” Boettcher said.

Truly the greatest advantage our team has is superior face off ability, Mac Carroll ’15 can win just about every time it really puts pressure on their defense, Norris said.

“Lacrosse is a game of possessions and Carroll and Michael Coyle ‘17 are great attributes for that,” Norris said.

We are not sure of the whole playoff landscape yet because there is still a lot of regular season left to be played but we know we absolutely have the ability to make a deep run, Hubbell said.

The team’s next game is this Saturday, May 2 at Troy High School.
