Local Grosse Pointe residents gathered on Kercheval and shared hot cocoa for the annual Winterfest on Saturday, Jan 31st.

Storefronts along The Hill prepared for the attendees by purchasing ice sculptures specifically for the event. Some stores are new to the function, and some like the Dirty Dog Cafe have been doing participating for eight consecutive years. Each store had carved images ranging from Tweety Bird to Superman.

Surrounded by the store fronts were festivities for all ages to enjoy including animals to pet, an owl and bird show, ice sculptures, putt-putt golf and samples from the many restaurants along The Hill.

Winterfest on The Hill also offers a range of different prizes donated from a variety of stores.

“For the last three years, we have been a door prize sponsor, and our prizes have been different every year,” said Terry Lynch employee of Talmer Bank and Trust.

Andry Neimanis, manager of the Dirty Dog Cafe, said that the stores raffle was offering a $100 gift card to the winner of the drawing, also offering different soups for the public to taste during the event.

“We’re offering a twirl bead bracelet,” said Cindy Lalonde owner of Lalonde Jewelers. Lalonde said that Lalonde Jewelers has been participating in the winterfest “as long as it’s been going on.”

Cookies were also offered in different stores like the Christian Science Reading Room.

“We’re offering a one-year subscription to the ‘Christian Science Monitor Weekly Magazine,” said Pastor Kent Commer.

After all of the animals were petted, cards were filled and the food was eaten, the Winterfest came to an end with the selection of the winners.
