Ski Club improving in second year

Madi Dettlinger ’13 | Managing Editor

After a warm winter last year, Ski Club is looking to get in a lot more trips to the slopes this season, club adviser and science teacher Lisa Bouda said.

President Matt Murray ’15 said that now that it has cooled down, the club will start meeting every Wednesday and begin to plan their trips to the slopes.

Bouda said that the club was around for years before it disbanded for a period and was brought back again last year. Unfortunately, its members could not partake in many ski trips last year due to unseasonably warm winter, but they said  they hoped to have lot more this season.

“I’m excited to go on a lot more trips this year since we could only do one last year,” said Vice President Will Flanagan ’15.

While Ski Club is not a school sanctioned organization, it has had a lot of interest this year, with at least twenty members showing up to the first meeting, Bouda said.

Murray said the club will mainly be making trips to Alpine Valley, including their first outing, which was Feb. 1st. The cost for participating is $29 for both skiers and snowboarders before rentals, and club members are looking for parent drivers for the outings.

Bouda said that one exciting new idea for Ski Club is that they are trying to plan a trip up north, possibly to Nub’s Nob if they can find a place to stay, which is something the club has never done before.

“The trip up north would probably be a good highlight for the year,” said Bouda.

Social studies teacher Christopher Bouda said that there is a lot to look forward to for Ski Club this year.

“It’s just a really great time to enjoy with friends,” said Bouda. “It’s a good way to enjoy the winter.”

Meetings for ski club are Wednesdays at 3:15 in room 258, Flanagan said. Students can also find out about the club or sign up for ski trips by visiting its Facebook page.

“Kids should join Ski Club to enjoy a winter sport with their friends,” said Lisa Bouda. “Skiing/boarding is a lifelong sport. If you start in high school, chances are you will continue as an adult. It really makes winter something to look forward to.”
