In a lopsided effort, the Kings defeated the Raptors 55-12 on Saturday, Dec. 8.

From the start, this game went in the Kings’ favor. Fast break points, timely three pointers and stifling defense allowed the Kings to get an early lead that would never be challenged.

“It was a nice win,” said Kings forward Andy Hartz ’13. “That first victory is always the hardest, but we really played a complete game.”

It was a total team effort for the Kings (1-2). Every player scored at least two points, including four players who tallied nine points. This was highlighted by shooting guard Mike Stavale ’13. He had arguably the biggest nine points hitting two of three from downtown.

“We really handed it to them,” said Stavale. “It was a good old fashioned blowout”

One of the keys to victory was the Kings two platoon system. With ten players on the roster, the team splits into two different lineups. The two lineups play together the whole game. They each play half a quarter and then switch keeping them fresh throughout the game and giving them the ability to develop chemistry throughout the season.

This really showed in the first quarter when they jumped on the Raptors early, allowing only two points in the first quarter. Their tenacious defense helped lead to an early 17 to 2 lead.

While spread scoring was the key to victory for the Kings, a lack of scoring crushed the Raptors. No player scored over four points, and only five players scored overall.

“There’s always next year,” said Wade Penman ’14 about the performance.

The Raptors look to get back on track next Saturday as they take on the Wizards (1-2). As for the Kings, they play their rival Hawks looking to even there record.
